How we think about tutor fit
Tutors may be based in the UK or internationally. The location is less important than subject knowledge, exam-board familiarity, online teaching clarity, marking judgement, professional communication and suitable availability.
Subject expertise
The tutor should understand the IGCSE subject content and the level of explanation needed for the student’s current grade.
Exam-board familiarity
Experience with Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, OxfordAQA or similar IGCSE-style assessments is considered where relevant.
Online lesson clarity
Lessons should be structured, audible, easy to follow and focused on the student’s target skill or topic.
Marking quality
For marking work, tutors need to think in terms of marks, command words, method marks and answer precision.
Parent communication
Feedback should help parents understand what was covered, what changed and what the student should do next.
Professional boundaries
Communication should remain appropriate, service-related and transparent. Families should not be asked to move payment or arrangements outside the agreed process.
Screening steps
We do not claim that every tutor is suitable for every student. Tutor matching is confirmed before payment where possible.
Profile review
We review subjects, teaching language, exam-board familiarity, experience, hourly rate and availability.
Interview or trial task
Applicants may be asked to explain a topic, complete a short trial lesson or review a sample answer.
Marking sample
For tutors who mark papers, we may request a brief sample using mark-scheme style feedback.
First-stage review
After early lessons or marking work, the family’s feedback helps confirm whether the match should continue.
