Compare three demonstration examples for Maths, English and Science. Each one starts with a small piece of learning evidence, shows the judgement a reviewer may make and ends with a task the student can actually complete.
From Student Work to the Next Practice Task
These examples show how we connect comments to the submitted work and suggest follow-up practice. Each includes a summary you can discuss with the student.
1. Relevant evidence
A completed answer, timed paper section, writing sample, topic test or school comment that shows how the student is working now.
2. Academic judgement
A clear distinction between missing knowledge, weak method, imprecise wording, timing, paper technique or an uncertain exam route.
3. Student action
A short correction or practice task that addresses the identified problem instead of simply asking the student to revise more.
4. Parent summary
A plain-language explanation of what is secure, what remains at risk and what evidence should be reviewed next.
The method begins correctly, but the written working loses marks
This demonstration uses an original multi-step algebra and graph practice set, not an exam-board question.
What to Send
One timed practice set with the student’s full working, the time taken and any school marking or comments already available.
What the reviewer checks
Whether the first method choice is sound, where signs or variables change incorrectly, whether enough working is visible and whether answers include an appropriate unit or check.
Original sample feedback
“Your first substitution is correct. Keep one algebraic change on each line so the rearrangement can be checked. Before the final answer, substitute back once and write the unit where the quantity requires one.”
The answer has ideas, but evidence and paragraph control are too general
This demonstration uses an original timed reading response and persuasive paragraph. It is not a copied paper, model answer or real student submission.
What to Send
One recent reading response or writing sample with the task wording, time allowed and any teacher annotation. A short sample is enough when it shows the student’s normal writing.
What the reviewer checks
Task focus, selection of evidence, explanation, paragraph purpose, sentence control, vocabulary accuracy and whether the response develops rather than repeats its main point.
Original sample feedback
“Your opening claim is clear, but the next sentence stays general. Add one precise detail from the text, explain what that detail suggests and finish the paragraph by linking the effect back to the question.”
The science is partly understood, but calculation and evidence language are incomplete
This demonstration combines an original calculation, data interpretation and practical-method response. It does not reproduce an official assessment item.
What to Send
A marked topic test, mock section or several connected answers showing calculations, graphs, data questions or practical explanations, plus the exact Science subject and exam board if known.
What the reviewer checks
Formula choice, substitution, unit conversion, sensible rounding, use of values from data, command-word response and whether variables and measurements are described precisely.
Original sample feedback
“The formula is appropriate, but convert the unit before substituting. In the data sentence, include two values instead of saying only that the result increased. For the method, name the variable kept constant and state how it will be controlled.”
What each demonstration would produce
The deliverable should be proportionate to the evidence. A small sample can support a focused diagnostic judgement; a complete paper can support fuller marking and a broader error pattern.
